SPONSORED BY Loechner David STEADY FORCE IN CHANGING TIMES David Loechner is President of Nielsen Expositions, formerly known as Nielsen Business Media. The company serves 11 industry sectors with 36 annual or semi-annual trade shows, nine B-to-B magazines, 21 conferences, and 30 web sites and digital products. He has been a part of the team for nearly 30 years, starting as a sales rep for the company's Outdoor Retailer Show. Through all of the company's iterations, David advanced steadily until he was named president in 2010. It is clear that he knows the business inside out and from every angle, a key reason why he is such an effective and respected leader. David is active in industry associations. He currently serves on the board of direc- tors of the Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO), the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) and Trade Show Execu- tive's Exposition Forecasting Board. David is an avid sportsman whose love of skiing ultimately led him to the trade show industry. He grew up in New England, attended college in the Midwest and settled into Laguna Beach, CA when he began his trade show career. He is married and has two teenage sons. He currently enjoys skiing, golfing, mountain biking and off-road cycling. He occasion- ally competes in stand-up paddleboard racing as well as the senior's class (50+) desert motorcycle racing. I caught up with him for lunch near his office in San Juan Capistrano in Orange County. BY BOB DALLMEYER, TSE columnist www.TradeShowExecutive.com | March 2012 57
