Graphic Arts Show Company Launches Online Channel BY DANICA TORMOHLEN, contributing editor Reston, VA – Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC), producer of GRAPH EXPO, has launched Te GASC Channel, an online resource that features a combination of video presentations, blogs by industry experts, social media content and live discussions. Launched one month before GRAPH EXPO, the channel focuses heav- ily on content related to the upcoming event that is scheduled for October 7-10 at McCormick Place in Chicago. "Over the last nine months, we have developed a mash-up of components that includes video coverage of new products, expo highlights, previews of educational sessions, and presentations by industry leaders, vendors and consultants on a wide variety of issues involving the graphic communications industry," Chris Price, vice president, GASC, told Trade Show Executive. GASC produced virtual events in 2010 and 2011, but the group found limited success with the format, said Price. Last Fall, GASC decided to scrap the virtual event and focus on developing a chan- nel that promotes more engagement and easy-to-consume content for attendees. Price said content was developed in- house, and he estimates that staff spends about six hours per week on marketing and developing content for the chan- nel. He and other staff members shot video at other printing industry events, such as Drupa, and at exhibitor offices and plants. "We spent $800 on a video camera, $11,000 on web development for the platform, and about $10,000 on video editing," said Price. "We used funds from our marketing budget, but we will mon- etize it if the channel is successful." Te GASC Channel will be continu- ously updated to focus on future GASC events, such as the global PRINT 13 exhi- bition. "Te channel will be a year-round tool, and we will be capturing content on the show floor and from sessions at the 48 co-located events held in conjunction with this year's show," said Price. "We plan to repurpose the content and use it throughout the year." GRAPH EXPO, which ranks No. 55 on TSE's Gold 100 list, attracted 13,426 verified attendee buyers and featured 491 exhibiting companies that occupied 300,604 nsf in 2011. Verified buyer attendance increased 7% over 2010, and unique buyer companies increased 12% compared with the 2010 event. GASC is owned by the National Asso- ciation for Printing Leadership (NAPL), NPES/Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies, and the Printing Industries of America.
